ACC Power Rankings: Week 1

Power Ranking Thursday!

Week 1
  1. Virginia Tech (0-1, 0-0 ACC)
  2. Georgia Tech (1-0, 0-0)
  3. Miami (Fla.) (1-0, 1-0)
  4. Clemson (1-0, 0-0)
  5. Florida State (0-1, 0-1)
  6. North Carolina (1-0, 0-0)
  7. Boston College (1-0, 0-0)
  8. Wake Forest (0-1, 0-0)
  9. NC State (0-1, 0-0)
  10. Maryland (0-1, 0-0)
  11. Duke (0-1, 0-0)
  12. Virginia (0-1, 0-0)

Notes
  • We considered a shakeup at the top, but Virginia Tech played Alabama pretty tough the entire way on Saturday. Yes, their offense was predictably horrible but their defense and special teams (despite a few costly errors) still look very, very strong.
  • Georgia Tech and Miami (Fla.) leapfrog Florida State to take this week’s #2 and #3 spots
  • Boston College moves up 1 this week to our #7 spot, as NC State falls from #6 to #9 this week.
  • Maryland, Duke and Virginia remain in the bottom three spots this week for their forgettable week 1 performances

This Week

Only one league game this week and it’s a big one. Clemson at Georgia Tech (tonight, ESPN) ...

North Carolina at Connecticut ... Stanford at Wake Forest ... Duke at Army ... Marshall at Virginia Tech ... Kent State at Boston College ... TCU at Virginia ... Jacksonville State at Florida State ... James Madison at Maryland ... Murray State at North Carolina State

OFF: Miami (Fla.)

I can't agree with this. VT gave up 500 yards on D. While the game was close, and the Hokies had the lead in the fourth quarter...Bama really did take it to them.

My power poll:

1. Miami
2. Georgia Tech
3. Virginia Tech
4. Florida State
5. North Carolina
6. Boston College
7. Clemson
8. Wake Forest
9. NC State
10. Maryland
11. Duke
12. UVA

That was against the #5 team in the country... and no one in the ACC appears to be that good.

I'd quibble with NC State, which is clearly too high in my opinion.
