A Mildly Informative Update from ESPN

Brian: A mildly informative update on the coaching situation from ESPN.com. Lots of past tense verbs sprinkled in there. Not good, but then again, we knew this wasn't going to end well.

"Jeff is a very good man and an excellent football coach," DeFilippo said. "He did a wonderful job for us while he was here at BC. I wish Jeff would not take this interview and would remain as head coach at BC."

DeFilippo would not discuss the specifics of Jagodzinski's contract but did say the two had a mutual understanding when Jagodzinski took the BC job just a little more than two years ago that he would be Eagles coach beyond the 2008 season.

"We certainly expected it would be more than two years before he would look or accept an interview [with another team]," DeFilippo said. "All contracts are different, as well as the spirit and intent of the contract."

If Jagodzinski is fired, a source told ESPN.com's Pat Forde that Boston College will consider three in-house candidates to replace him as head coach -- offensive coordinator Steve Logan, defensive coordinator Frank Spaziani and offensive line/assistant head coach Jack Bicknell.

guys forgive me if this point has been made, but let's not say jags is a great coach. We are letting an unproven coach go, and the only thing i really worry about is stability and recruiting.
He coached in years that the ACC was down, and provided a product that was lethargic on offense without matty ice. With time he could have proven something, but not being able to win the acc championship 2 years in a row says something. Especially when we had equal talent.

I say stick with BC's decision all the way, and hopefully we find a quick way out of this. I hope Gene's harsh public actions dont scare away coaches in the future.

No one is saying Jags is a great coach. However to say he is completely unproven is a stretch, too.

Getting this team to its first two ACC Championship games says much more about his coaching track record than his inability to win it. And while Jags clearly benefitted from Matt Ryan's abilities in his first season, the Jags/Logan offense really opened it up for Matt and gave him the opportunity to shine much more than he did under O'Brien. It's not a one-way street.

If you want to pin the lackluster effort in the Music City Bowl on Jags and the coaching staff, fine, but to say that Jags didn't prove anything by not winning the ACC Championship seems unfair at best.

Won with players that weren't his. Yeah montell harris, josh haden came because they were guaranteed playing time from day 1. (it must be really hard to recruit them with that on the table)

He doesn't call offensive or defensive plays. im just saying.

Jags couldnt get us up for either championship game. Matty Ice shows that he is the reason the team did well, different system, different coaches, still got to 10 wins in the NFL.

This team should have beat vandy, hands down. If you want him to have credit for the offense, then thats a shame. This year's offense- atrocious. Without spaz on the other side we are not bowl eligible.

Goodbye jags, no going away party, no nothing. As far as im concerned all BC affiliation should be stripped from him. Jags is also dumber than he looks, he's never going to get the jets job, and frankly a polite/public refusal of the jets interview would have shown he was a "BC guy" as he liked to refer to himself. It also would have shown that we have a quality program. (way to let the ever popular brett favre talk you into ruining your career).
