ACC Power Rankings: Week 3

After we right-set expectations last week, here's what we think of the conference this week.

  1. Wake Forest (2-0, 0-0) - Wake still looks like the best team in the conference and has the strongest resume of the remaining undefeated ACC squads.

  2. Clemson (2-1, 1-0) - Clemson has some great players who will win them games, but they are far from a great team.

  3. Virginia Tech (2-1, 1-0) - Until someone knocks off the Hokies, they are still our presumptive Coastal division champs.

  4. Florida State (2-0, 0-0) - Surprisingly impressive through two games. Florida State is on their way back to being the Seminoles of old.

  5. Georgia Tech (2-1, 1-1) - Last Saturday's game really could have gone either way, Johnson and the Yellow Jackets serving notice to the rest of the Coastal division that Georgia Tech belongs in the division crown conversation.

  6. Boston College (1-1, 0-1) - The best team in the ACC minus a quarterback.

  7. Miami (1-1, 0-0) - Could end up 4-8 or winning the Coastal division. A lot is still unknown about the young Hurricanes.

  8. Maryland (2-1, 0-0) - One quality out of conference win a dominant ACC team does not make. We aren't going to easily dismiss the mail-in job the Terrapins put in at Middle Tennessee State.

  9. North Carolina (2-0, 0-0) - Terrible week 1 when they trailed McNeese State in the 2nd half. They bounced back on national TV against Rutgers but Rutgers has now been blown out twice and is 0-2. Virginia Tech at North Carolina this weekend will tell us more.

  10. Duke (2-1, 0-0) - Already doubled their win total from 2007, Cutcliffe has the Blue Devils putting points on the board through 3 games (30.7 points per game compared with 17.9 points per game a year ago).

  11. Virginia (1-2, 0-0) - Embarrassed by USC and Connecticut, a 16-0 win over Richmond is the only bright spot for the Wahoos this season. The bottom falls out in Charlottesville this week when they travel to Durham and lose to the Blue Devils?

  12. North Carolina State (1-2, 0-1) - A 10 point win vs. William & Mary has been the only win sandwiched between a 34-0 performance against South Carolina and a 24-9 Clemson beatdown.

I really don't like being No. 3 and having Carolina at No. 9. Couldn't you have at least put the Heels above Maryland?

Good assessments of BC and Clemson.

Good luck this weekend.

For this week, I think Cal is a better team than Rutgers and MTSU is a better team than McNeese State. Hence Maryland above the Heels based on resume ranking at this point.
